Your legislative proposal should reflect something you are interested in seeing happen in the “Nation of _________ (insert classroom number),” our classroom. Keep your party’s goals in mind: “Stars” should write legislation about classroom environment issues, while “Stripes” should write legislation about classroom management issues
You should also keep in mind, however, that President ________________ (insert teacher’s name) holds an irreversible veto over legislation passed by the student-legislators; thus, a legislative proposal to eliminate all tests and quizzes, passed by the Congress, does not stand a chance of becoming law.
In terms of formatting, please write your legislative proposal clearly and in complete sentences; this will help the Clerk ________________ (insert teacher’s name) turn your idea into a bill for consideration by the committees and the Congress simulation as a whole, if your idea is passed out of committee.
You are encouraged to write more than one legislative proposal. If you do, please write them on the same piece of paper. If your handwriting is less than neat or legible, please type your legislation to assure that Clerk ______________ (insert teacher’s name) can accurately get the idea behind your proposal.
You will get out of this experience what you put in; have fun, but take advantage of this opportunity to influence your classroom experience. Reasonable legislative proposals passed by the Congress will be implemented by ______________ (insert teacher’s name) for the remainder of the semester!
